Professor, Chemical Engineering; NSERC-Lanxess Industrial Research Chair in Advanced Rubber Technology

Dr Garry Rempel has held the Natural Sciences and Engineering Research Council of Canada (NSERC)-LANXESS Industrial Research Chair in Advanced Rubber since 2002. The activities of this chair project aim to invent highly efficient catalytic systems and develop new hydrogenation routes to improve polymer modification.

Since 1982, Professor Rempel has been involved with industrial partners to develop commercial technology used for the homogeneous catalyzed hydrogenation of nitrile butadiene rubber.

Professor Rempel has won a number of awards for his innovative research and significant achievements such as the Molecular Science & Engineering Award and Catalysis Award of the Chemical Institute of Canada as well as the Industrial Practice Award and R.S Jane Memorial Award of the Canadian Society for Chemical Engineering. He has also received the Thomas W. Eadie Medal of the Royal Society of Canada and is a fellow of the Royal Society of Canada.
