Internationalized Teaching and Learning

The majority of the faculty members are from the Institute of Functional Nano & Soft Materials (FUSOM; founded in 2008) at Soochow University, with strong educational and interdisciplinary research backgrounds in chemistry, science, biomedical sciences, and electronic engineering. Currently, CNST, FUNSOM, and SUN-WIN Joint Research Institute for Nanotechnology (jointly established in 2011 by Soochow University, Waterloo, and SIP) construct a ‘trinity’ organizational form of teaching, research and industrialization.

The undergraduate program at CNST focuses on innovative talent-training, adopting and integrating strategies from well-known international universities.

  • Freshmen are divided into small classes toreceive intensive English language training by native English teachers.

  • All specialized courses are taught in English.

  • Each undergraduate student has a mentor who provides academic and life guidance.

Educational objectives

CNST aims to develop its students physically, morally and intellectually. Students will be taught the basic knowledge, theory and skills required in their chosen field of nano materials and technology, as well as the related field of engineering technology. Students will be trained in the theoryand method of scientific experimentation and CNST will encourage creative spirit and practical aptitude as well as a truly global perspective.

At the end of the degree students will be able to undertake scientific and applied research, develop new technologies, and administrate projects in the fields of science and technology. CNST will produce the next generation of scholars and administrators in nano science and technology who will then be able to participate in this emerging global discipline.

Future prospects

CNST aims to develop nano science and technology professionals who will engage in research and development work, and take up teaching and administrative positions. CNST students will take up positions in scientific research institutions, post-secondary schools, enterprise and public institutions.

Credits

Students are required to obtain 160 credits before graduation from a variety of the courses listed above.
