SWC member Prof. Kim Baines named Fellow of the Royal Society of Canada

Kim Baines, professor of Western University, member of Soochow University-Western University Centre for Synchrotron Radiation Research (SWC), was recently announced as Fellow of the Royal Society of Canada for her outstanding achievements.

Kim Baines is an internationally recognized scholar in the fundamental chemistry of low valent, highly reactive main group compounds. She pioneered the synthesis and chemistry of germasilenes and novel low-valent germanium, tin and gallium cations, opening new areas of scientific inquiry. Capitalizing on the research, she developed the synthesis of new inorganic polymers and main group catalysts and furthered the understanding of semiconductor surface chemistry.

Founded in 1882, the Royal Society of Canada (RSC) comprises the Academies of Arts, Humanities and Sciences, and The College of New Scholars, Artists and Scientists. The RSC recognizes excellence, advises the government and the larger society, and promotes a culture of knowledge and innovation in Canada and with other national academies around the world. One hundred and two new Fellows have been elected by their peers for their outstanding scholarly, scientific and artistic achievement in 2022. Recognition by the RSC for career achievement is the highest honour an individual can achieve in the Arts, Social Sciences and Sciences.
