Fostering Youth Responsibility: CNST Hosts Special Lecture on “Nanotechnology Development and Industrialization”

Created on 2023-10-27

To strengthen the link between industry and academia while cultivating top-tier innovators, our college invited Zhang Pingping—a Jiangsu Provincial Undergraduate Industry Professor, Deputy R&D General Manager at Jiangsu Huiwen Nanotechnology Co., Ltd., and a distinguished alumna—to deliver a lecture titled “Nanotechnology Development and Industrialization” to the Class of 2023 on October 25. The lecture was moderated by Assistant Dean Wang Lu.

Professor Zhang began by introducing the unique properties of nanomaterials, their processing techniques, and existing commercial applications, giving students a clear sense of how nanotechnology is moving from the lab to the marketplace. She then walked the audience through a wide range of real-world uses—from electronics and chip manufacturing to healthcare, renewable energy, environmental protection, transportation, and aerospace.

According to Zhang, chip technology, one of the most iconic applications of nanomaterials, has become a key measure of a nation’s technological power. Achieving self-reliance in science and technology, she stressed, is essential to both national prosperity and security.

“A thriving youth leads to a thriving nation; a strong youth leads to a strong nation,” she said. She encouraged students in nanotechnology and related fields to embrace the mission of advancing the country through innovation—and to align their academic work and career aspirations with the long-term goals of national development.

Following the lecture, students engaged in in-depth discussions with Professor Zhang regarding their questions about internships, practical training, and future career planning—gaining valuable insights from the exchange.
