CNST Young Faculty Teaching Contest Successfully Held

Created on 2024-12-03

The College of Nano Science & Technology (CNST) at Soochow University successfully hosted its second Young Faculty Teaching Competition on December 3, 2024. The event was hosted by Professor Wang Lu, Assistant Dean for Academic Affairs, with the judging panel comprising Party Secretary Wu Peng, Professor Liao Liangsheng, and Professor Liang Zhiqiang.

Seven early-career faculty members delivered carefully prepared teaching demonstrations. Drawing from their selected course segments, the contestants showcased a range of innovative teaching methods. Some traced the historical development of science and technology, highlighting the dedication and achievements of pioneering scientists; others drew on cutting-edge technological trends to engage students’ curiosity about national development and global progress. The presenters made effective use of multimedia tools and physical demonstrations to enhance their lessons.

Following the presentations, the judges offered detailed feedback. Professor Liao Liangsheng provided individualized comments, acknowledging each participant’s strengths and innovations while suggesting areas for improvement. Secretary Wu Peng and Professor Liang Zhiqiang offered advice on teaching methods and strategies for integrating broader content, encouraging the use of more heuristic and vivid examples to enrich classroom instruction. The participating teachers expressed that they greatly benefited from the judges’ insights.

Yang Hao and Wang Yusheng received first-place awards.

In her closing remarks, Professor Wang Lu noted that teaching competitions serve not only as a platform to showcase individual talent but also as a valuable opportunity to enhance teaching skills and exchange pedagogical experiences. She encouraged all faculty members to use the competition as a starting point for continuous reflection and improvement, to strengthen their foundational teaching abilities, and to gain experience for future participation in university-level and higher-level contests.

The competition served both as a meaningful training ground for young faculty members to refine their instructional skills and as an important step in the College’s ongoing efforts to explore new approaches to teaching excellence and deepen educational reform. Moving forward, the College will continue to promote high-quality teaching development and regularize such activities, supporting its commitment to comprehensive, holistic education.
