According to the recently released 2023 ShanghaiRanking's Global Ranking of Academic Subjects (GRAS) on October 27, Soochow University's Nanoscience and Technology subject ranked 5th globally and 4th among Chinese universities, behind only the University of Science and Technology of China (USTC), Tsinghua University, and Peking University. Furthermore, the Materials Science and Engineering subject, primarily developed and led by our college (FUNSOM), ranked 15th globally and 5th among Chinese universities, with the top four being Tsinghua University, USTC, Peking University, and Zhejiang University.

ShanghaiRanking Consultancy began publishing discipline-specific university rankings in 2009. The GRAS covers 55 subjects across five major fields: Natural Sciences, Engineering, Life Sciences, Medical Sciences, and Social Sciences. The ranking uses internationally comparable objective academic indicators, including significant international awards in the discipline, top-cited papers, quality of papers, and international collaboration. The GRAS evaluates over 5,000 universities worldwide, with approximately 1,900 universities from about 104 countries and regions ultimately appearing on the subject rankings this year.
