Good News! Prof. Zhang Xiaohong Receives Ho Leung Ho Lee Foundation Prize for Sci. & Tech. Progress

On December 19, the 2023 Ho Leung Ho Lee Foundation Award Ceremony was held in Beijing. Ding Xuexiang, Member of the Standing Committee of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee and Vice Premier of the State Council, attended the ceremony and delivered a speech. The complete list of recipients of the 2023 Ho Leung Ho Lee Foundation Science and Technology Awards was announced, honoring 56 outstanding scientific and technological workers. Zhang Xiaohong, Secretary of the Party Committee of Soochow University, as well as a professor and doctoral supervisor at our college (FUNSOM), received the Ho Leung Ho Lee Foundation Prize for Scientific and Technological Progress. We extend our warmest congratulations to Professor Zhang Xiaohong!

Professor Zhang Xiaohong is a Deputy to the 14th National People's Congress and a Delegate to the 19th National Congress of the CPC. He serves as Executive Deputy Director of the National Collaborative Innovation Center of Suzhou Nano Science and Technology, and Director of the Jiangsu Provincial Key Laboratory of Advanced Negative Carbon Technologies. He is a recipient of the National Science Fund for Distinguished Young Scholars, a selectee of the Major Talent Program of the Ministry of Education, Chief Scientist of a Major National Research Program (973 Program), Principal Investigator of an Innovative Research Group Project of the National Natural Science Foundation of China (NSFC), a Fellow of the Royal Society of Chemistry, and a recipient of the State Council Special Government Allowance.

Professor Zhang Xiaohong has long been engaged in research on novel optoelectronic functional materials. He has achieved a series of significant and innovative results in the field of organic and micro/nano-structured optoelectronic materials, providing important scientific foundations for the design and property modulation of such materials, as well as for the improvement of device efficiency. He has published over 520 papers in renowned international journals such as Nature Photonics, Nature Energy, Nature Materials, Nature Communications, Advanced Materials, and Angewandte Chemie International Edition. He holds more than 50 US and Chinese patents. In recent years, he has led over 20 national-level research projects, including an NSFC Innovative Research Group Project, an NSFC Major Research Plan Integration Project, an NSFC Key Project, and a National 973 Program Project. He has received one Second Prize of the National Natural Science Award (as the lead recipient) and three First Prizes of Provincial/Ministerial Science and Technology Awards. He has supervised more than 50 Ph.D. graduates and over 10 postdoctoral fellows.

The Ho Leung Ho Lee Foundation was established in 1994 by Hong Kong patriotic financiers Mr. Ho Sin Hang, Mr. Leung Kau Kui, Mr. Ho Tim, and Dr. Lee Quo Wei. Over the past 29 years, it has awarded a total of 1,582 outstanding scientific and technological workers, serving as a successful example of a non-governmental science and technology award in China. The Foundation presents three annual awards: the Ho Leung Ho Lee Foundation Prize for Scientific and Technological Achievement, the Ho Leung Ho Lee Foundation Prize for Scientific and Technological Progress, and the Ho Leung Ho Lee Foundation Prize for Scientific and Technological Innovation. For the 2023 awards, after preliminary evaluations by professional review panels and final deliberations by the Selection Committee, 56 recipients were selected from 917 eligible nominees. Among them, one received the Prize for Scientific and Technological Achievement, 32 received the Prize for Scientific and Technological Progress, and 23 received the Prize for Scientific and Technological Innovation.
