At the opening ceremony of the 35th CCS Congress on April 11, 2026, the recipients of the 2025 Chinese Chemical Society (CCS) Young Chemist Award were announced. Prof. Shen Boyuan from the Institute of Functional Nano & Soft Materials (FUNSOM), Soochow University, was among the awardees.

Prof. Shen joined FUNSOM in 2021 after earning his Ph.D. from Tsinghua University in 2020 under the supervision of Prof. Fei Wei and completing postdoctoral research at the Center for Multidimensional Carbon Materials, Institute for Basic Science, Republic of Korea, with Prof. Rodney S. Ruoff. His research focuses on the controlled synthesis of porous materials (zeolites, MOFs, COFs), catalysis and energy storage based on these materials, atomic-resolution TEM imaging of beam-sensitive materials, and in situ TEM studies of catalysis, mechanics, electronics, and energy storage. He has published in Nature, Nature Communications, Journal of the American Chemical Society, Physical Review Letters and Advanced Materials, and has led the development of iDPC-STEM imaging for beam-sensitive and light-element materials.

The award, established in 1983, is the earliest academic honor bestowed by the CCS, recognizing outstanding chemists for innovative contributions to fundamental or applied chemistry research, chemical engineering, and chemical education. A total of 10 young chemists were selected as recipients in this year.

FUNSOM now has four faculty members who have received this award.
