摘要
In the field ofOrganic Electronics, the molecular electrical doping of organic semiconductors(OSCs) has emerged as key strategy to improve the performance of organic(opto-)electronic devices and to extend their range of functionality. However, despite impressive success in practical applications, the fundamental processesunderlying molecular electrical doping are still not fully understood to date, which precludes further progress.
In the presentcolloquium, I provide an overview on my work focusing, in general, on themicrostructure of thin OSC films as assessed by X-ray diffraction techniques, and, in particular, on the interrelation between structure and electronicproperties upon molecular electrical doping. In this context, I will discussthe role of ground-state charge transfer complex formation upon dopingprototypical OSCs, where their mixed crystalline growth with the dopant speciesis observed. In the prospect of providing a unifying model for the molecularelectrical doping of all types of organic semiconductors, that is, conjugatedmolecules and conjugated polymers, I pin down profound differences between thefundamental mechanisms at work in these two materials classes despite identicalchemical composition and similar microstructure. Based on these insights emergenovel design rules for future, more efficient molecular dopants throughtargeted chemical design.
