Abstract
Renewable clean energy is one of the most profound challenges faced byhuman society. Organic solar cells havebeen under rapid developments for past decades, owning to their low cost and shortenergy-pay-back-time due their solution processability. Until now, most of thehigh performance solar cells manufactured in lab uses spinning coating method. However, spin coating method is not scalable. And the power convert efficiencyof those cell drops significantly once scaled up using roll-to-roll printing. The gap between lab scale and industrial scalemanufacture yet to be filled. In thistalk, I will present recent works in Prof. Zhenan Bao group aiming to closethis gap. We used advanced real timeX-ray diffraction techniques to understand the morphology development duringthe roll-to-roll printing process. Basedon this morphology understanding, we further optimized an all polymer solarcell that can be scaled up from a lab scale spin coating to consciously roll-to-rollprinting method using a custom built roll-to-roll coater without significant efficiencyloss.
