Innovative Delivery Systems for Biomacromolecules
Introduction:
Macromolecular drugs such as antibodies, peptides, nucleic acids, etc., play an increasingly important role in the treatment of various diseases. Different from the diversified delivery methods of small molecule drugs, large molecule drugs are difficult to effectively penetrate through various physiological barriers due to their large molecular weights,and thus most of them rely on injection administration in clinical use. An important research direction of our laboratory is the development of novel delivery carriers for needle-free delivery of macromolecular drugs. Our rationally designed carrier molecules can self-assemble with proteins to form nanoparticles, which could penetrate through various types of physiological barriers. Such technologies enable oral, eyedrop, transdermal and transmucosal delivery of macromolecular drugs. These innovative drug delivery technologies are expected to provide more convenient, safe, and effective treatment options for autoimmune diseases, metabolic diseases, eye diseases and other chronic diseases.
